Circulation, Public vs. Private, and Organization

The circulation of any space is crucial, as it guides the visitors by the designer's intentional conveyance. The separation of private and pubic space supplement into it as well. You might not want the offices to be visible because it may disrupt the illusion. Lastly, by studying the organization, it allows me to have samples of what my building may consist of.

  1. These are good diagrams. Can you obtain sectional information for these precedent buildings? Sometimes the same overlays in section reveal different relationships. At times they are mutually exclusive...plan and section. Sometimes they overlap in interesting ways to create dynamic tension and complexity.

  2. Circulation habits also change in accordance to the period that each example was designed. I see some with a classical or procession type arrangement, which is not present in the more contemporary examples. Keep current site building codes and siting influences in mind when considering the circulation of your spaces. How does lighting affect or become affected by the movement through the space? Are there opportunities that can be created?
