Model (In Progress)

The Meteor Strike/Solar System

The meteor originates from an asteroid belt that's located past mars, which is the 4th planet from the sun and I use that, to bridge the adjacent pier located near the site to increase traffic. That will allow people to take a stroll amongst the stars, while hitching a ride on the meteor to the center of everything. That center for my site will represent the meteor impact site, the sun, and the body of a comet, due to them all sharing this center that has massive kinetic and penitential energy. The impact will create a massive crater, which will be my reflection pool (Sun) and the resonating shock will raise the earth to form my stage, ramp/seating, and store. The impact doesn't just push earth around, it shoots back debris into space that can potentially form into planetoids (Observation Decks), which are massive rocks that are too small to be considered planet, but too large to be asteroids.

The largest Blue circle is the reflection pond, my Sun. The smaller ones are the planets, MercuryVenus, and Mars. That allowed me to locate the asteroid belt. The gray area is my seating/ramp, which is the back part of the store. The green part are my observation decks that will allow people to watch the stars.

Perspective view of the pond, stage, and seating/ramp.

Earth's Orbit/Comet
I used the Earth's orbit and a comet to create the massing, which will hold much of the exhibits and theaters. The Earth's orbit is not actually a circle, but an ellipse. This unique shape controls the amount of sun we receive as well as the seasons. The comet is used as the other component for the mass because it's the counterpart to a meteor. It doesn't impact anything and just passes by, but it does share the same head of the meteor. Instead of a triangular tail, it has one that fans out.

The purple is the orbit, the greens are the position of the Earth during it's cycle(Equinoxes & Solstices), and the blue is the comet

The reasoning for the Earth's being at different heights, is due to how much sun it's getting on its orbit. The shortest one is the Winter Solstice, the large one is the Summer Solstice, and the ones in between are the Equinoxes.

Study Models Pt. 3

Inspiration

Magnetic Force
The Sun produces a lot of solar radiation that constantly bashing the Earth and if not for the magnetic field created by the Earth, the radiation would be much greater, which would completely scorch it. For this model, the radiation is represented by the ribbon and as it comes in contact with the board, it deflects and forms a sphere.

Planet Composition & Dark Matter
In this model, I wanted to demonstrate how planets can be composed of different materials. One planet may be made up of gas, while the other can be actually made up of entirely of diamond, that's what the two spheres represent. The black net is the dark matter that holds the whole universe together. It's this invisible presence that's always there. Each planet and star has it's gravitational field and so does dark matter. Think of dark matter as a liquid that the planets rest on to stay afloat.

Black Holes
These massive to tiny monsters are the end all to the universe. They just eat and eat, until they blow up into a Giganova and it repeats all over again. Scientists have speculated that in the center of our galaxy lies a Black Hole that is still sucking in material. That's why our galaxy looks like a spiral. The model started as a regular square paper, but at the center it starts collapsing into itself, shredding the ends.

Study Models Pt. 2

Connection Models

2 Point Connection
For this model, I was just seeing how how two points intertwining would interact with one another. What was created was this malleable semi sphere like object.

Multi-Point Connection
The screws represent nodes at different heights and locations, but are still connected through an invisible force. This also applies to other things, such as people with strong bonds. No matter how far that person may be, you'll always have a connection to them.

Dancing
Dancing is one of the actions I put into the collage. I wanted to further develop this idea due to it being out of the ordinary for the concept of connection, however it is as much of a connection as physical points or maybe even much more. To be able to dance in sequence with a partner or a group, their bond must be great. If one person messes up, they all suffer. As the dance starts, its soft at first, but gradually intensifies. As it intensifies, the paper starts to twist and puncture into the board deeper just as the dance.

Study Models Pt. 1

To further develop the collages that were made, I've created 3 abstract models of each. Each representing a general idea that I'm trying to convey.

Impression Models

Fishing
For this model I tried to capture the essence of fishing. It's quiet on the top and not much is going on, but underneath the water, it's bustling full of life, even if the person fishing may not be able to see it. When casting your bait into the water, it's not just bait. It's all the hope you're putting into catching a fish and that's what the coin represents at the end of the line.

Conversation
While fishing with a friend, conversation is very important and it's what I think fishing really is. It's not about the fish or catching anything. It's about having a good time and catching up on life, while maybe hopefully snagging a few. Conversation starts off small, but gradually gains momentum and girth. It eventually splits off into different forms. It could be flowing smoothly, ending up sharp, getting rigid and jagged, stopping short, or even back tracking a bit.

Potential
I've stated before that the first time we arrived at the site was horrid due to bad weather conditions, but I looked at the bright side of things. This model represents exactly that. Looking at the bad, but seeing the potential is has. On one side, it looks bleak, but there's a silver lining leading into something much more bright and comforting.
