Story Board (In Progress)

  1. Your design revolving around a meteor crashing into earth is a really cool design concept. Since you are doing an observatory/ science center i do think you should incorporate an observatory somewhere in you project, even if its not connected to your main building.

  2. I love your concept on the aftermath of when a meteor/comet strikes the Earth. The plans are great but your Rhino model really brings your concept to life since it shows a lot more depth rather than just an echo of that moment so it would be nice to see that posted with this post.

  3. I really love your whole method of thinking of your design. The concept is on point. I agree with Patrick. I think you need a observatory. Although you explained that you don't want your building to be that sciency, but i will jump at the chance to look through a real big telescope and the public will also.

  4. I like the way you are going with this. I'm wondering if the meteor impact and debris pattern, followed by the sun, earth's orbit, and solar system layouts are informing your future building location and amenities onto the site. The story board is gradually honing in on your process. It makes it very clear.

    1. it looks clear where you derive your ideas from and to where you're heading.

  5. I think its a real cool story.

  6. The way that you are developing this structure has a fascinating evolution from the study models. For the board you posted showing us what you have developed in rhino would help us see the translation more effectively. Otherwise the presentation is beautiful.

  7. I think I can sense where you want to take your narrative into a design translation; it would be great to see these thoughts of form and function beginning to take on a life. The concept seems to be implanted, but now think about what makes an observatory such an ethereal experience. Why are some almost cathedral-like, while others are hardlined and sterile? How can a space create an 'impact' without having anything to do with the physicality of a meteor or a crater, per say?

  8. 2 words: MODEL IT. While the storyboard is effective at conveying the thought process, it lacks in direct relationship with the design. Perhaps your classmates are referring to a yet unposted rhino model. Screen-shot it and post it unfinished and raw if necessary to provide the yang to the yin of this provocative study.
Look toward other interpretations of impact. Maya and other "animation" softwares allow dynamics and physics reactions to take place in a virtual realm. Tools such as particle emitters and collision planes, flexible and malleable meshes and springs can be used to study impacts and collisions in space which are bound by "physics" but open to experimentation and discovery.
